General Membership Meeting

January 13, 2010
The meeting was called to order by President Wes Wickham at 12:35 p.m.
13 members were present: Wes Wickham, (Ind), Betsy Bartlett, (Curves of Metamora), Carol Campbell, (Bolton Brook Manor), Shari Nicoloff, (Metamora Foodland), Becky Brown, (Servpro of Lapeer), Rod Thole, (Pilgrim Presbyterian Church), Richard Stouffer, (Metamora Historical Society), Carri Norris, (Norris CPA,LLC), Bob Gardiner, (Metamora Masonic Lodge 210), Carole Porretta, (Coventry Realty), Connie Ledger, (The Wedding Florist), Dan Mitchell, (Mitchell Photography), and Lenny Miller, (Lenny Miller’s Restaurant).
Introductions were made.
Minutes: The minutes from the last meeting (November 11, 2009) were read and approved.
Treasurers Report: The treasurers report was postponed until February’s meeting.
Membership: Carole Porretta, membership Chairperson reported that 90% of the membership letters have been sent out and that we ended last year with a 15% increase in membership. Carole said that they also included Metamora Country Days and Hot Air Balloon sponsorship letters in the membership mailing. The membership committee is looking into getting a bulk mailing permit for the Chamber.
Chamber Mixers: No report.
MAYDA: We were notified by the DNR that we did not have enough points to qualify for our Youth Sports Park. Wes and Phil plan on applying again by the April deadline. Comments were voiced about perhaps getting a better price on the property that we’re looking at. USDA loans were mentioned as a possibility and Becky mentioned that she had written grant applications in the past.
Cooking for Charity: No update
PR: We need volunteers for this committee.
Metamora Country Days: Our first meeting will be February 2, 2010 at 6:00pm at a location to be announced.
Membership Directory: We are looking for volunteers to serve on a Membership Directory Committee.
New Business: Wes brought up the proposal of looking into hiring a part time director and how to fund that position. He feels that we could enhance our offerings to our members with a director and that in today’s economy we could find some good people at a reasonable salary for the job and we should be able to fund that position with a couple of fundraisers. Duties of the director would include assisting all standing committees, managing the web site and in general increasing the Chamber’s presence in the area. The consensus of the group was to have Wes look into hiring a director and to report back.
Dan Mitchell gave a presentation for Gallery 194 (Lapeer) about their activities and specifically their up coming 2nd annual Metamora Garden Tour. The Chamber agreed to assist them in any way that we could.
Meetings: The next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 10,2010 at the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Metamora with food being supplied by Metamora Foodland for a $5.00 donation.
